About

Since 2008, Dr. Emily Barrett has been providing her students with the knowledge and skills they need to become informed, independent, well-rounded musicians. With patience and warmth, she has led all types of students toward their unique musical goals.

As a performer, she has been featured as a soloist and a member of many groups playing stringed instruments and keyboards, while also being involved in songwriting, composing, and arranging. Several of her works are currently published by the California Guitar Archives, and she can be heard playing lap-steel and acoustic guitars on the soundtrack for the independent film At Your Own Risk.

Her doctoral work involved writing the first-of-its-kind method book for the 5-string banjo in the Western Classical style. She has been a member of the music faculty at Cal Poly Pomona since 2022.
